Housekeeping- Officekeeping

Housekeeping- Officekeeping

Clean up before closing. you would not leave your house with out a bit of a clean, neither should you do that to your business.

Windows and outdoor signage to be kept clean at all times. Its awfull to see great products in-store but grubby signage on the outside that makes the shop look like its selling second hand items.

Casuals are used effectively to ensure store is kept neat and tidy at all times.Use your resources to make your business be the best that it can be.

Ensure rubbish bins are removed regularly and checked on a daily basis by manager. check your bins hmm, you whisper. Thef can happen by people chucking things out and claiming items later. Now if you an expensive jewlery store.. that is not good lol.
Ok ok and check that the bins are alway clean

Ensure cash desk is neat and tidy at all times.

Store inspections are conducted by Store Managers at the start of the day.

Saturday

Presentation of Your Store

PRESENTATION

Come on guys...Ensure seasonal merchandise is in a prominent position. dont hide it at the back so no one can see it! Show it off loud and pride. Perhaps a customer will come into your store looking for a bargain and may find something else that catched their attension.

Face out displays must be replaced with sleeve out displays to accommodate stock holdings depending on stock volume

Ensure store layout is correct (extra space is given to gift items). Gift items are great for people shopping for gifts. I often want to find something quickly and easily and love gift packs that are preprepared, ready and wrapped.

Remember: Our society is a lazy one! We want all the information, put into neat packages and then us quickly choose and move onto the next thing

Thursday

Signage for Malls

SIGNAGE within malls should be correctly displayed.

I have spent a lot of time in the restaurant industry and some of these very simple tasks are overlooked by the manager or the owner running the store.

Use correct swing tickets for sale and other promotional activities

Trading hours signage to be in place

* Public Holidays
* Sunday trade
* Late trade

Windows and floor to have correct promotional and generic signage.

This is easy to do:
- Ensure that signage and POS (Point of sale) is up to date.

It looks VERY unprofessional going into a store that has the incorrect dates on the posters that are still kept up on the windows or in display cabinets.

- Floors clean. What the customer sees will create an impression of the reputation of the business as a whole.

- Lighting pointing in the right directions -lighting is very important in any store to create the ambiance within.

- Get other peoples opinions - this is something that I have learned to do.Ask your friends, family's, little kids what they think of your store. They have the invaluable customer eye, letting you know how a consumer sees your displays.

Promotional Guidlines for Management in Retail/Food

What promo will result in the desired goals?

items that were bought in quantities that can be sold at the end of the promotion in a big sale, that can still create revenue.

3)Sale preparations in position
Ensure that correct POS is put up on the windows of the retail/ restaurant outlet.
Advertise in Free subscriptions
Advertise in Magazines
Local Radio
Online

4)In-centre promotions are planned and executed.

5)Manager to update all staff on current promotions and specials. Once again... use the daily meetings to relay this information(Most prefer at the beginning of a shift.

Sales Generation Guidlines

SALES GENERATION

1) Ensure correct signage and sales / promotions is reviewed on a daily basis

2) Focal displays are changed daily

3) Readings taken hourly and motivation provided – reset goals.

4) P.O.S. operators to try to sell add-on’s where possible.

5) Window displays are changed daily

6) Regional Manager to balance stock between stores or with suppliers

7) Discuss stock requirements in morning meetings – report to owner.

8) Merchandise fill-ins are carried out daily and stockrooms efficiently organized.

9) Staff must sell-up and add-ons to increase average transaction values.

10) Hold competitions to enhance performance e.g. coke, lunch, (make selling and achieving fun)

Lastly: Do not under estimate the value of daily meetings. Have worked in many retail and restaurant environments it its vital for the staff to be reminded daily on their jobs and focus within the store on a daily basis. Morning meetings can also be used to discuss targets, hourly goals and plan of action for the day. this can get all your staff motivated and involved in the process.

Smiling Over Valentines Day

Ok Ok i know that valentines day was a load of rubbish for marketers to use another great tool to sell...

But, my boyfriend is going away on a conference for 10 days and planned his trip so that he would come back on Valentines day, 14th Feb... so that we can spend it together!

I know, I'm such a softy!

Thursday

Valentines Day - Fab or Mad

Hmmm.Valentines day is around the corner once again.

This legend has been cleverly turned into a marketing ploy to masses of unsuspecting victims. On Valentines day it is customary to give your loved one or an admirer, secret or public show of affection through gifts. In todays very modernistic society we feel obligated to share in this legend with our loved ones, even if we don't know the actual story behind it. Marketing psychology influences the mass market to buy lavish or simple presents for a special loved one. From flowers to expensive jewelry, heart shape chocolates, roses, teddy bears, holidays away, love cards... anything and everything.

Here is the legendary story!!!:

Legenda Aurea has sill no real connection with sentimental love. Tales past down to modern times portray Valentine as a priest who refused a law attributed to Roman Emperor Claudius II, ordering that young men remain single. The Emperor supposedly did this to grow his army, believing that married men did not make for good soldiers. The priest Valentine, however, secretly performed marriage ceremonies for young men. When Claudius found out about this, he had Valentine arrested and thrown in jail. In an embellishment to The Golden Legend, on the evening before Valentine was to be executed, he wrote the first "valentine" himself, addressed to a young girl variously identified as his beloved, as the jailer's daughter whom he had befriended and healed, or both. It was a note that read "From your Valentine. (Wikipedia)

So there you have it! I just learned something new and confirmed something old.

Tuesday

Grocer Shopping Heaven

Spending money has never been easier!

Why is it that I cant leave the house without spending money. Just going to our local grocer for a coupe of things is no longer possible.

Items jump right out at you, with new and improved formula's, fancy packaging that entices even the toughest of consumers into buying. I cant help but walk up an down the isle in the grocer and ask myself why I don't need that item.

I am a marketers dream customer. I do want all the new fancy health crazed foods. I do believe that the new improved toothpaste formula is better than the older one. I want a raizer that cuts twice as well. I want anti aging properties in my face wash. I want the 2 for one special on candels... I may need them someday. I think that golden glow shampoo will make my hair more glossy.Aaaahhhhhhhh...

Its so hard to resist the temptations!

Sunday

Logo creation- Marketing

To approach this kind of challenge, I use a few "tricks" myself.

- the obvious solution, is not always the right one, there for take time and don't be in a hurry to just come up with anything.
- Start with pen and paper.

If you get stuck mind mapping things out, try this technique:
- Write down every big and small word you associate with this "problem". Anything that related to the idea of the task. Think of things you enjoy, words you have seen in newspapers or even on the pictures on your walls at home.
- Search online for different logo's in the same industry or look up those logo's that have always stood out in your mind. What do you like and dislike about them?

Lastly, if you have time: Make a mood board. This tool to discuss style and emotion before you start with the designs. This is a tool that clients usually understand. The mood board allows you to work through an idea you have with your client. That wy they can see how you came up with the idea in the first place. Make it pretty: add colors etc to show how the words can 'feel'.

The Logo design reflects the company culture or product culture that is being represented, e.g. Lemon grass spray for he room, a holistic product, natural, earthy tones and fun young theme can be used.

Service excellence- is Marketing for your buisness

In a world filled with bad service (in many organizations)this is a major focus that can grow your business by leaps and bounds.

A Service entails:
Selling a product that does not exist until the customer pays for it. It is “intangible,” marketing a service business is very different from marketing a product. Know the strategies for marketing a service business.

Your Marketing business is a service - there for market yourself through all the clients that you see.

Selling a service is more difficult than selling a tangible product. Consumers are much less certain when they are buying a service, since what they are buying is merely a promise that someone will do something for them in a way that will satisfy their expectations.

- Keep your promise!! And keep on keeping your promise!
- Individual client attention
- Retention strategy's

Marketing is no longer a 'one size fits all' service. People are generally drawn to things that are customized, personalized, or otherwise geared to their personal preferences.

Wednesday

Busy client day

Getting up and ready for a day presenting to clients can be a daunting process.

I woke up early, to have enough time to sit and have breakfast, instead of my mad rush to the door as usual.I have meetings thru-out the day and look forward to some exciting new ventures and campaigns.

Wish me good luck!!

Monday

A Marketing Plan- to get you started

Marketing Plan -

You don't have a marketing plan?? Having a thorough marketing plan is a no-brainer. The marketing plan will be a critical part of yur business... no clients means no money!!

Update your marketing plan -

Done on a regular basis whether monthly or yearly. Often, entrepreneurs and start-up companies have one set of plan that they had written in order a goal. this needs to be haged as the business grows or needs to be re-assesed if it is not working.

Align marketing strategy with your core business goals -

When I write business plans, I dedicate a good portion of my plan for a detail marketing strategy. Marketing strategy or the marketing plan can be a part of the overall business plan. Align your plan wit your core business goals and other factors e.g. demographics and psycho graphics.

Measure the spending -

Most successful companies are great marketers by design. Publicity is an effective and way to achieve a major hype around a specific product. Get the name out there. Psychology tells us that people love what is popular and more likely to see value in your company through perceived quality of a product.

Forecast expected return
-

Forecast expected return for the upcoming quarter.

Re-align marketing collaterals -

Current marketing materials must be used. this needs to also be reflected in the ad campaigns that your company chooses to undertake.

Execute constant PR campaigns -

With the advent of the Internet, running a PR campaign has never been easier. can be created and set up easily and can be sent with any other sales materal that gives an outline of your company attributes. There are many Free online press kits that one can download.

Collaborate with partners that strengthen your brand

Testimonials from satisfied clients included in your press kit

Establish strong direct response

This must be quantified for the best results and monitoring.

The Four P's of Marketing

Starting right at the beggining of any marketing analysis we hear of the term THE FOUR P's.
We prepare a marketing plan by using the 4 P's of marketing.

The 4 P's are: Product, Price, Place, and Promotion.

Depending on different target markets, we will need different promotional strategies for reaching its market. Each of these target markets are price sensitive in their own right ( this is a very subjective process)

The first of the 4 P's I would like to discuss is Product. Wikipedia defines product as, "..anything that can be offered to a market that might satisfy a want or need. However it is much more than just a physical object. It is the complete bundle of benefits or satisfactions that buyers perceive they will obtain if they purchase the product..." (Product (business), 2005)

The four P's may describe a need or want. Looking at a particular productdesign, quality, and features.

The second P, price, is a strategy based on the different target markets and plans for the future.

The third P I am going to discuss is place. According to SSM, "Place deals with the distribution channels by which your prospects will be able to buy and receive your products and services. Clearly without defining the niche prospects, it is impossible to set up the best distribution channels." (Winning Marketing Plans are Client-Centric, 2005. There is a saying, , Location, Location!!! This is an important part of any business and also plays a part in determining the product, price and promotion.

The last P I will discuss is promotion.Promotion looks at the type of customers that are being targeted. In todays times we see that consumers want products that are customized, special, full fill individual needs or ideals. Promotions are set up to interpret these needs

The Big Marketing Picture

To manage and understand marketing needs:

Be it the company, brand, product, service, or individual, this involves monitoring and maintaining awareness of your broader environment consistently - Macro environment.

Look around all the time! When eating out at your favorite restaurants or walking along the same pathway that you always do... look up and take note on a regular basis, look away from the minutia found in the microscope of your day-to-day operations and use a telescope to see the horizons of what's taking place around you.http://www.blogger.com/post-edit.g?blogID=4674734113855915463&postID=4049915079799806812#

8 Key Points to Manage you Retail/ Restaurnt Outlet

STAFF MANAGEMENT AND STAFF DEPLOYMENT

) Plan lunch hours efficiently – no lunch-breaks during peak trading hours

2) One day off (except Fridays and Saturdays)- these are busy days for most traders. Ensure that enough staff are available for peak trading times. Of course more than one day of, is optimal.

3)Staff to be effectively deployed http://www.blogger.com/img/gl.bold.gif
insert bold tagsin all departments at all times

4) Staff to concentrate on sales and not their own socialising – discipline accordingly. you now after writing this I thought it actuallly really depends on the industry that one is working in. E.g. funky clothing shops that need friendly sales people, depend on socializing and networking in order to sell items and spread the word.

I believe, we all want to make money and work in an optimal environment doing so.

5) All stores to open and close on centre-specified trading hours

6) All overtime / casual payments to be approved by manager

7) Ensure all permanent staff to wear uniforms / badges
